Skill Development Centres

We commenced our Skill Development Centres, also known as Nari Shakti Kendras with a Cutting-Tailoring Training Centre in 1994-95, offering tailoring training to women between the age group of 15 and 35 years. Our first Cutting-Tailoring Training Centre was set up in village Shaulana. This activity has since been extended to cover several villages in the vicinity.

Initially, 15 students were enrolled at the centre. The inspiration behind starting Cutting and Tailoring centre was to teach women a skill, which can make them self-dependent, financially independent and also

boost their confidence. Today, the girls trained from our centres are contributing financially to the household income, resulting in an improvement in their quality of life and improved access to better health and education.

Till date, 4,894 women have undergone training at our Cutting & Tailoring Training Centres, with most of them earning between Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 15,000 a month from this skill.

Responding to a need expressed by girls from the villages, SUNDESH initiated Beautician Training programme in 2010-11 in Ghaziabad. The initiative allowed the women to work as beauticians in their villages and earn additional income. In 2020-21, 33 women successfully completed the six-month course and were awarded certificates. In addition, 74 women are still undergoing the training programme in three villages: Kakrana, Piyawali, Samana.

Till date, 1,429 women have been trained on beauty care with some of them becoming social entrepreneurs by setting up their own beauty parlours and cosmetic centres with an average earning of Rs. 5,000 to Rs 15,000 a month with the acquired skills.
