In rural areas, students often encounter formidable
challenges, including limited access to quality coaching institutes, scarce
resources like books and study materials, and socio-economic barriers, all of
which can impede their exam preparation efforts. Addressing these challenges
head-on, Sundesh has been at the forefront of literacy efforts since 2013
through its Community Library initiative, impacting 217 individuals to date.
The initiative’s core mission is to establish basic infrastructure in villages
and set up libraries, providing diverse reading materials, including resources
for competitive exam preparation. Moreover, Sundesh fosters student
volunteerism, empowering them to organize and manage library activities.
Beyond mere numbers, the impact of Sundesh transcends,
nurturing a culture of literacy and learning that enables individuals to
explore new avenues. Rural libraries have been instrumental in significantly
improving literacy rates and offering vital resources for education and
personal growth. Notably, approximately 65% of rural libraries host community
events and educational workshops, fostering community engagement and enriching
learning experiences.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, Sundesh's Community Library
initiative benefited 170 individuals in Shivaya, Siddhipur, and Samana
villages. Moreover, several students cracked competitive examinations and
secured jobs, underscoring the library's pivotal role in enhancing educational
and economic opportunities.
Looking ahead, Sundesh remains resolute in its commitment
to expanding library access and promoting literacy in rural communities,
thereby contributing to their holistic development and empowerment.
