Cataract, responsible for 51% of global blindness cases according to the World Health Organization (WHO), and a staggering 62.6% in India, remains a significant health concern. Despite being treatable, many individuals in rural areas lack access to cataract surgery due to financial constraints and limited healthcare infrastructure. The National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI) estimates that around 8 million people in India suffer from cataract-related blindness.
Sundesh's free cataract operations initiative is a beacon
of hope for needy individuals in villages. Since its inception in 2002, our Eye
Camp, in collaboration with Chunni Lal Medical Trust, Lions Eye Hospital
Ghaziabad, and Northern Aromatics Ltd.'s CSR initiative, has provided 3203
free surgeries. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to
ensuring equitable access to eye care.
Our Eye Camp aims to restore vision and improve the quality
of life for those affected by cataract-related blindness. By offering free
surgeries, pre- and post-operative care, vision tests, and education about eye
health, we strive to alleviate suffering and instil hope in individuals and
families.
In the current fiscal year, we provided free cataract
surgeries to 407 people, marking another milestone in our mission.
Looking ahead, Sundesh is determined to expand the reach and impact of our Eye
Camp programme. Our goal is to assist as many people as possible and make a
lasting difference in their lives.
